Care & Maintenance

When you receive the kimono, please, as soon as possible, take it out from the parcel and plastic bag and air it on a hanger in the shade for about a few hours. Do not keep the kimono too long in a plastic bag, as it could be damaged and wrinkle.

-Regular Care

After taking off a kimono, let it air on a hanger in the shade for about a few hours (at most for a day) to draw out the moisture and wrinkles.

Try to hang it to smooth the wrinkles before using iron. If it needs to iron it, do not use steam, as it will shrink. At a low temperature, iron it on the back side placing a cloth over the area to be ironed to prevent the fabric from being damaged and discolored.

-Storage

Before storing a kimono away in the chest of drawers, brush dirt off and draw out the moisture carefully. It is better to keep it in a tatoushi-paper for kimono. If you don't have it, keep it away from humidity. It should also be hung out to air a few times per year, hanging the kimono in the shade when the weather is dry.

-Cleaning

Be very cautious about washing kimonos as it is very delicate garments especially silk ones, so basically professional dry clean only specifying that it is a delicate garment and requesting a light wash.
